Lake County Partners
Lake County Partners is a 501(c)3 economic development corporation that works to maintain economic vitality and quality of life in Lake County by attracting, retaining, and expanding businesses; creating and retaining quality jobs; stimulating capital investment; pursuing economic diversity; and improving the county's business climate. LCP convenes and collaborates with partners across industries and sectors. Its continued economic and workforce development work includes implementation of LCP's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, which is an action‐oriented, five‐year strategy that builds on existing efforts and spotlights what’s needed to achieve economic prosperity in Lake County.
Mothers Trust Foundation
Mothers Trust Foundation has provided immediate assistance to children in Lake County since 1998. It serves low-income children (birth-age 21) and their families, all whom live well below the poverty line. MTF’s annual programs include a winter coat drive and a prom dress/suits shop. MTF also provides grants so that youth can attend summer camp (which provide the children the opportunity to acquire new skills, make new friends and benefit from healthy outdoor activities) and academic resources to Waukegan Hich School (through its MTF Classroom Enrichment Grants Program which was piloted at the school in 2022).
North Chicago D187 | Lead Mentor Program
The goal of the Lead Mentor Program is to create a network of support for new and existing teachers, provide a leadership track for mentors, and increase the teacher retention and satisfaction. Lead Mentors have been identified and trained, specific to their building, and work directly with the New Teacher Development Coordinator, to provide in classroom support and mentorship meetings for first year teachers, second year in the district teachers, and new to district teachers. The Lead Mentor Program is focused on developing a clear leadership track for teachers that will in turn broaden the opportunities for teacher retention and advancement within the district.
North Chicago D187 | Principal Leadership
The Principal Leadership Coaching program is focused on objectives that include supporting leaders in establishing individualized professional goals within a system of support and accountability to achieve them; support new leaders in establishing themselves in their roles, defining their priorities, and navigating challenges; and building leader capacity to develop strong relationships and effective teams. District 187 provides 1:1 coaching for principals, which has led to reduction in principal turnover, improved academic growth, and the implementation of teacher-led instructional teams which are critical elements of schoolwide change.
North Chicago D187 | New Horizons Program
New Horizons is a teacher retention effort that gives educators in District 187 the ability to attain specialist degrees and endorsements. Focus areas have included education technology (which prepare them to effectively integrate technology across curriculum, as well as support the effective use of it by other educators.) and bilingual endorsement (with the ability to attain a Bilingual Endorsement that allows teachers to teach bilingual programs in grades and languages they are certified to teach).
Warhawk Summer Up
Warhawk Summer Up, a program run by the city of North Chicago, was created in 2018 to connect students (middle school and high school) and young alumni from North Chicago with engaging summer experiences that will prepare them for life inside and outside the classroom. Summer Up identifies opportunities that are enjoyable and meaningful and removes the cost and transportation barriers that often prevent students from taking part. Warhawk Summer Up activities includes college and learning experiences and paid internships.
